Rad Blog!

This is a blast from the past, eh? Ecto Cooler was all the rage for kids, but then it went away. I think the same flavour stayed around since this is basically an orange drink by Hi-C, but it went by other names like “Orange Lavaburst.” I remember that one more fondly. What I do know is that Ecto Cooler was, well, cool. It had that Slimer ghost from Ghostbusters on it.

Well, I suppose they decided to re-release Ecto Cooler because of that new Ghostbusters movie that came out a while back. I didn’t actually know it was re-released when the movie came out, but I did happen to find this at my local bargain store. 33 cents for a can. Not bad, eh?

Anyway, Hi-C was the cool kid drink when I was a young’in. It came with Lunchables sometimes. The thing is, Hi-C is pretty much just sugar and water. My ma wouldn’t buy it because it wasn’t healthy. I was stuck with apple juice or whatever while all the cool kids had their Hi-C drinks. If you were even cooler, you had Capri Sun, but I’ll save that for another day.

Now, Hi-C was in a little paper juice pouch. I don’t ever remember seeing it in a can like this one. I guess this is special or something. It also doesn’t really look like the Hi-C I remember. They were usually yellow and had the fruit of whatever flavour it was busting out on a wave of coloured juice. This is just green with an ooze effect to it. There’s some orange at the bottom too. The logo looks right though. Overall, this can looks kind of distressed, doesn’t it? It looks like it sat in the sun for a while and it lost its colour. I hope that’s not the case. I bought about 4 cans and they all look like this. I’m thinking that’s just how these were painted. From other pictures online, I think it is just me. Maybe these cans DID sit out in the sun. Oh.

Well, the orange at the bottom was supposed to resemble an orange from the looks of it. There’s a small slice at the very bottom too. Obviously, this is to celebrate Ghostbusters from the top of the can.

I guess I should dive into what is in this drink then!

10% juice. That’s okay I suppose. I was honestly expecting 0.

Serving size is 1 can.

150 calories. 0g total fat. 25mg sodium. 41g total carbs. 0g protein. 100% Vitamin C.

They aren’t kidding with their name. This does have high Vitamin C. That’s pretty good actually. I’m gonna go back in time and point this out to my ma and say “SEE! THIS IS GOOD FOR ME!”

Ingredients!

Pure filtered water, high fructose corn syrup, orange and tangerine juices from concentrate, natural flavors, citric acid, ascorbic acid, potassium citrate, yellow 5, blue 1.

So, this is going to be…green?

I guess that makes sense. I mean, the can IS green, right? It is supposed to be ectoplasm.

Well, let’s open this thing. It says to shake well. Shake shake!

Very…green. Ahhh! Slime!

It smells like tangerines actually. I absolutely pick up on that. I guess this is just gonna taste like a sweet orange juice from what the ingredients say. There really isn’t much to it other than juice, high fructose corn syrup, and dye.

Taste time!

Hmm. Hmm. Mmm!

At first sip, it is just kind of sweet with maybe a hint of tartness from the citric acid. then it just transitions into a full-on sweetness. It is almost like what I’d expect one of those Nectar drinks to taste like actually! Then I can finally taste the tangerine zing from it, but the after taste is the mellow tartness of orange juice. The thing is, orange juice is a lot like thick water. This actually captures orange juice fairly well. The first fruit taste I get is absolutely tangerine though. Only in the after taste does it taste like orange juice. The tangerine flavour doesn’t really sick around to me, which is okay I guess. I’m not really missing it. It was more of a nice accent than a main event. This drink is actually has the orange juice texture that leaves that sort of film in the glass when you drink it. It is less of a water with juice as it is a juice with water drink. For an example, it is less like that Tampico drink I did a long time ago. It is actually more like the kind of orange juice you’d just buy in the store.

This is pretty tasty actually. I’m surprised I like it as much as I do. I think finding out that this is more on the juice side rather than the water side enhances my enjoyment. The taste is pretty nice and sweet. It is a very casual drink that I could just enjoy with a snack or with gaming. I say good job to you, Hi-C. This is pretty taste.

I’m gonna give this a jumpshot swish out of Rad. 33 cents? Heck yeah!
